Nigerian king of street rap, Olamide Baddo comes out more calm and collected on new album – Carpe Diem. The rapper’s follow up to “999“.
It goes without saying that since he sealed his deal with Empire earlier this year, Baddo has made a serious shift in his music style; from street-heavy raps to dropping calm bars.
In Olamide’s words, “The project is a reflection of my mind, and also the current sound brewing underground in Nigeria. It’s a combination of a lot of traditional elements and also a sound from way back in Nigeria called galala, which has a little bit of reggae/dancehall. It’s also a fusion of something we call Celestial, which is when you are playing secular music in church. It’s like taking pop to the church.”
The 12-track album features Bella Shmurda, YBNL’s golden boy Fireboy DML, Omah Lay, DMW’s Peruzzi, and long time collaborator Phyno. Production was done by ID Cabasa, Pheelz, P-Priime, VStix, and Young John (the wicked producer).
